Gas Safety Certificates in West Sussex

If you are letting residential or commercial property in West Sussex, you must obtain a Gas Safety Certificate. A Gas Safety Certificate, also called a CP12, is a government-mandated certificate that must be renewed every 12 months. 

If you do not have an up-to-date Gas Safety Certificate for the properties you own, then you may be liable to fines and other punishment. A landlord must provide a valid gas certificate to tenants at the time of the lease or with 28 days of a gas safety check. 

A gas safety certificate includes:

• Date of the gas check
• The address of the property 
• The name of the landlord
• Detailed descriptions of the gas appliances and fittings inspected by the engineer 
• The registration number, name, and signature of the engineer who performed the gas check
• Recommendations to fix defects, if any

It is important that once the inspection has been completed, you obtain a copy of the certificate from the Gas Safety Registered engineer. 

If any appliances are deemed unsafe, it will be indicated on your certificate. Thereafter, it will be your responsibility to make sure those appliances are repaired or replaced.
